Flood Forecasting and Heavy Rain Protection through Hydraulic
Modeling
Flooding and extreme rainfall events presentcomplex challengesthatrequire robustscientific analysis
and evidence-based solutions. This webinar examines how hydraulic modelling is applied within
academic research to support flood and heavy rainfall risk management. It explores modelling
methodologies used to predict flood events, analyse flow paths, and assess the impacts of land-use
change and new construction projects. The session further highlights how research-driven modelling
informsresilientinfrastructure design and sustainable spatial planning.
The webinar will be facilitated by Philipp Rinkel, Project Engineer at Aquantec GmbH (Germany), whose work focuses on surface water and groundwater modelling, water balance analysis, and climate-adapted water management, including research under the WaMiSAR project.
The session is open to students, PhD candidates, researchers, and stakeholders with an interest in hydrology, engineering, environmental planning, and climate-resilient water management.
